Francisco grew up in Cosalá and came to the United States as a young man. Soon after, he met and married his wife, Maria, and formed a beautiful family.   • Wasco man stabbed to death; 2 charged

    A 24-year-old Wasco man was stabbed to death May 3. Two men have been charged in the murder. Kern County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 800 block of Broadway. When they arrived, deputies found a man suffering from stab wounds. The victim was later identified as 24-year-old Jose Aleman. Aleman was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. On May 8, homicide detectives arrested Aaron Garcia, 22, on a felony murder warrant.     The Truth Church in Shafter celebrated Mother's Day on Friday with a blood drive and pop-up event. Pastor Frank Cabrera said they had planned to hold a blood drive and decided to add the pop-up event to honor the mothers in the community.     A local Girl Scout is spreading awareness of human trafficking as part of her Gold Award. Maelyn Camacho of Girl Scout Troop #2447 recently came to the Shafter Rotary Club meeting to talk about human trafficking and some things that can be done.     Wendell McGuire passed away after a brief illness with cancer. He was born into a family of four brothers, Gerald, Vernon and Glenn, to Fred and Frieda McGuire in Porum, Okla. They made Wasco their permanent home in 1951. Wendell met Sallie Little and were married in 1954, and they had four children. Sallie was busy with babies and Wendell with making a living.     Wasco High School will return to classes in-person this fall on Aug. 12 for only in-person instruction, Assistant Superintendent Kevin Tallon said.     The county is slightly rising in covid-19 cases and is backsliding on its progress to reach the yellow tier, Kern County Public Health Director Brynn Carrigan said.
