2 named to plan board

Ron Nunlist and Bob Wiebe will be new members of the Planning Commission after being appointed at Tuesday’s City

Council meeting.

The Planning Department is responsible for administration of site development reviews and public inquiries, overseeing maintenance of the General Plan, administration of city zoning and processing land subdivisions. Their four-year terms will expire in at the end of 2022

The Council also approved the Lions Club annual Christmas Parade at Mannel Park on Nov. 30.

Also approved was the permit for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, which will take place following the Christmas Parade at the Downtown Square.

There will be music, food, a bounce house and pictures with Santa.

Among other items, the council:

■ Approved an agreement with the Kern High School District for the use of the Shafter Pool and aquatics facility for this swimming season.

■ Approved a pay schedule for City Council members. Beginning at the first of the year, Council members will receive stipends for their service. The mayor will receive $300 per month, with council members receiving $200 and planning commissioners receiving $50 per month.

■ Authorized the city manager or public works director to award purchase of a memorial site monument to be placed in Veterans Park. The purchase is expected to be $15,000.
