Kiwanis Club honors Terrific Kids at lunch

The Shafter Kiwanis Club had the honored a special group of students at their monthly Terrific Kids Luncheon held at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

Each month, the principals and assistant principals from each elementary school bring students who have been selected as deserving of recognition because of their accomplishments and their adherence to the core character goals that exemplify an outstanding student

Terrific Kids is a program that recognizes outstanding students that demonstrate characteristics that embody the values of the program. The program promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. "Terrific" is an acronym for thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive and capable.

This month, the highlighted quality was "responsible."

Students work with their classroom teachers to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance and school work. Students benefit from this program by building character, develop leadership skills, and attain important life skills known as developmental assets that help them make smart choices.

Golden Oak Elementary School Principal Anamarie Mendez introduced Gizelle Ariel Zamora. Gizelle was recognized for her quality of being responsible. She is "super responsible," always using good manners. She gives up free time to tutor first graders. Gizelle has perfect attendance, never missing even a single minute of school.

Sequoia Elementary School Principal Frank Flores and Assistant Principal Jennifer Painter introduced Hector Cruz as their Terrific Kid. Hector, a sixth-grader, is always well organized and has lots of friends on the playground. He completes all of his work on time and has tremendous respect for school rules.

Richland Junior High English teacher/Counselor Angelica Martinez introduced Mariela Reyes and Ethan Jimenez as the school's Terrific Kids. Martinez informed the Kiwanis group that Mariela always has a smile on her face and that Ethan exhibits dedication hard work in class.

The Kiwanians congratulated all of the students on their achievements and hard work.
