Cans d'Arte feeds body, soul
Cans d'Arte is coming to the Depot Museum.
With the Shafter Colours Festival approaching, the Shafter Woman's Club is again preparing for their annual "Canstructional" design-build competition to be held the weekend of Feb. 23-24. This is a unique project to encourage artistic endeavor and make a difference by feeding the hungry.
Participants are encouraged to construct architectural structures or designs with nonperishable cans and boxes of food. Awards will be given in three categories: adult, high schoo, and elementary.
Those interested in designing a nonperishable art display can register their team with the Shafter Woman's Club and ask for the details by emailing [email protected].
The creations will be featured the weekend of Colours on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 11 am to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The display will remain at the Depot from February to March. After the competition, all of the food items will be donated to a local food pantry for use in the Shafter community.
