Serving the community since 1922

True Value in town

Local family opens new hardware store

There is a new hardware store in Shafter that opened up on Central Valley Highway, right next to Apple Market. True Value Hardware opened its doors on Feb. 1 and has been servicing the needs of Shafter residents since.

The Mohsen family have called Shafter home for 20 years and have been serving the community since then. They have a market on Los Angeles Avenue named La Favorita that has been a mainstay of Shafter when it comes food and beverage needs.

Owner Abdula Mohsen and his family decided to expand their businesses and open a store that would save the residents of Shafter a drive into Bakersfield. True Value has an inventory of items that will fit your needs when it comes to home projects. There is a complete inventory of paints, tools, parts for your home such as supplies for those electrical, plumbing and woodworking projects. If you need keys, they have it covered. Needing supplies for your lawn and garden projects, you can check that off your list right here.

In addition to an array of building and repair supplies, they also carry sporting goods, pet supplies -- even clothing., "We have a little of everything here and we are still adding inventory. We listen to the needs of the people and are working to fill all of those needs," store manager Mohammed Mohsen said.

A friendly staff including Alexis, Marcus, Teresa, Noseem and Mohammed are knowledgeable and are ready to assist you in finding whatever you need. A grand opening is in the planning stages and will take place sometime in April.

"We want to complete our merchandising of the store and make sure everything is ready for our grand opening," Mohsen said. The store has already paid dividends for a lot of residents who have taken advantage of having such a selection in Shafter. "I usually have to make a trip to Bakersfield when I do my yard work and get supplies for my garden, but True Value has everything I need. This is a great thing for the people of Shafter," said Luis Martinez, who came in the store to pick up some fertilizer, potting soil and a new hose and sprinkler.

"We just love the people of Shafter and they have been very good to us. This is a great place for our family, and we want to keep serving the community for a long time."
