Egg hunt at Gossamer Grove

Gossamer Grove, the new development at the south end of the city, held an Easter egg hunt for the entire community, drawing Shafter residents, as well as nearby residents of Northwest Bakersfield, on Saturday at Flight Park in the development.

Attendees were treated to an Easter egg hunt for children, separated by age groups, followed by free refreshments and free tote bags for the children to take their collection of eggs home. There was also a visit by the Easter Bunny, who took keepsake pictures.

The hunt attracted residents from all over town, including the Perales family, who made drove out to the new development at 7th Standard Road and Coffee Road. They brought all the kids, including Artisan Perales, Karissa Alcala, Kaitlyn Alcala and Camilla Perales.

According to Kevin Gordon and Shant Guzelian of Lennar Homes, the hosts, this is just one of many events held at the site. "We hold an event during Halloween and also another one around Christmas time," said Gordon. "Our next event will be a 'Movie in the Park,' which will be open to the entire community."

The movie night will feature a big inflatable screen playing a family-friendly film at sunset, including free popcorn and drinks for all who attend.

The new park has several airplane-themed toys situated on the grounds, along with facts about the history of Shafter aviation.

Lennar Homes have started work on a new phase of homes scheduled to open in July. There will also be a new park next to the new phase. "This park is going to be different than just a flat piece of land. This park will be topographically exciting and will be train-themed, with train-related structures scattered on a five acre park," Gordon said.

Anyone interested in the new phase is encouraged to visit one of the several model offices at the development, which is located near the intersection of 7th Standard Road and Coffee Road.
