Santiago Gonzalez Valdez

Sept. 24, 1946 – May 1, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Santiago Gonzalez Valdez announces his passing on Wednesday May 1, 2019, at the age of 72 years. Santiago will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia, and his children, Mary Lou (Paul) Shaw, Eddie (Maria) Gonzalez, Araceli (David) Hurley, Santiago Jr. (Kristi) Gonzalez.

Santiago will also be fondly remembered by his 10 grandchildren, Katie, Megan, Daniel & Lauren Shaw, Adam & Carolyn Gonzalez, Rebekah Hurley, Elizabeth, Olivia & Alexandria Gonzalez, and a great grandson, Greyson Shaw. Santiago is preceded in death by his son Borjas Gonzalez and granddaughter Sarah Gonzalez.

He was the sixth child of the 9 children born to Borjas and Maria Gonzalez on September 24, 1946 in Nuevo León, Mexico. He lived in McFarland for most of his life, then moved to Bakersfield to be closer to his children and grandkids. Remembering him will be Isabel Cabrera, Jose Gonzalez Antonio Gonzalez and Borjas Gonzalez, Jr., along with many nieces and nephews.

Santiago worked for Superior Farming (later known as Paramount Farming Co.) for almost 33 years. He later worked for Gardener's Supply, where he retired after almost 10 years. Besides working, he loved being outdoors working or tinkering with whatever he can get his hands on. He never said no to anyone who needed help. He would always be there with a great full heart.

Viewing was held on Monday, May 6, 2019, at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter, with a funeral Mass Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Church in McFarland, followed by a graveside service at Shafter Memorial Park.

Please send condolences to the family and sign the family's guestbook at PetersFuneralHomes.com.
