Serving the community since 1922

Pet vaccine clinic Saturday

It is that time of year, and the City of Shafter Animal Control will be hosting the annual Rabies Vaccination Clinic at Mannel Park on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. The goal of this clinic has always been to keep pets healthy by providing low cost vaccinations for our community and provide a reasonable means to keep pet owners in compliance with local licensing requirements. As the city continues to grow, we too are expanding services to meet the ever-growing needs of our residents. During this week’s clinic you may notice a few changes.

The 2019 Rabies Clinic will expand services and provide the least restrictive requirements to attend. To accomplish this, we have teamed up with Critters Without Litters Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic to provide an array of vaccines and microchipping for both dogs and cats.

The City of Shafter, as in previous years, will issue a free one-year dog license for city residents. The most exciting aspect of this year’s clinic will be how services are rendered. There will be no jurisdiction or licensing requirements to receive a rabies vaccination. While city residents will still receive a free one-year license, anyone can participate and their pets will receive a rabies vaccine for twelve dollars.

Customers outside of the City of Shafter jurisdiction will be ultimately be responsible for complying with their specific regulations regarding licensing, but the rabies requirement can be fulfilled at the Shafter Rabies Clinic. Why is this significant? Shafter Animal Control understands that being while being part of a rural community has its benefits, sometimes services that are available in larger municipalities are out of reach. Whether it be due to busy schedules, transportation difficulties, or physical inabilities these veterinary services should not be out of the reach of our community, and the community extends beyond the boundaries of our city. We want to see everyone and their pets thrive, because we know just how much your four-legged friends mean to you. And in keeping with this we are proud to offer these services.

Vaccines are a crucial part of the prevention of animal diseases. By taking part in this weekend’s clinic you are also doing your part in keeping not only your pets healthy and happy, but from preventing life threatening and costly ailments. Remember, we are expecting our best turn out to date and although we will work diligently to get your services rendered as soon as possible, patience will be appreciated. We look forward to seeing you this Saturday, so please come out and bring a friend too.
