Wonderful Company workers help out in city

The Wonderful Company, one of the largest growers of nuts in the world, as well as the nation's largest citrus grower, is giving back to the local communities that it serves.

Several groups of Wonderful Company employees were in Shafter working to beautify the city this past Tuesday morning as part of the company's Give Back Project.

About 20 employees were hoeing weeds, raking and picking up trash in the area surrounding the Babe Ruth park in back of the AM/PM store. There was also a group of employees at Mannel Park assisting City of Shafter workers in the repair and replacement of sprinklers.

"We contacted the Shafter Parks Department and asked what needed to be done and if we could help in some way with our project," said Walter Dowdle of the Wonderful Company.

Wonderful employee Chad Givens said, "We have groups of Wonderful employees in several communities, including as far north as Avenal and includes the communities of Lost Hills, Delano, Bakersfield and Shafter, as well as a few others. All of the workers here are Wonderful employees who are giving back to the communities that have supported them. It is a great way to say thank you to all of the communities that our employees call home."
