City celebrates holiday with a bang

The night sky was lit up with an array of colors on Wednesday night as Shafter celebrated the Fourth of July holiday with its annual Fireworks Show at Shafter High School. Gates opened at 6 p.m. as residents started arriving to participate in the "pre-game festivities. The football field was filled with activities and games for the kids to enjoy, including bounce houses, slides and a bungee ride.

As dusk arrived, the National Anthem was sung and the sky lit up with a flash of color. What followed was 15 minutes of bursting shells, some bright and colorful, some silvery and gold tones, exploding over the field and stands, bring out oohs and aahs from the overflow crowd.

The Shafter show has built a reputation of having a dramatic grand finale, and this year did not disappoint. Multiple shells were launched into the sky, exploding over and over, creating a continuous show of color.
