Good news from all over the county

Kern Transit will offer free rides to those from Wasco and Shafter attending Bakersfield College. The rides will continue through the summer session. In addition, the county also has funding available to offer the program again during the 2019-2020 school year.

Over 12,000 free rides were given during the spring semester, and over 25,000 rides were given over the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Communities in District 4 who also receive transportation from Kern Transit are Arvin, Lamont, McFarland and Delano.

The Wasco Road Yard did AC cutouts and repairs on Scofield Avenue, Burbank Street, Famoso Road, Wasco Avenue, Driver Road, Peterson Road, Pond Road and Beech Avenue. Potholes were patched on Magnolia Avenue, Brandt Road, Riverside Street, Palm Avenue, Wasco Avenue, Mayer Lane, Beech Avenue, Brite Road, Buerkel Road, Western Avenue, Filburn Street, Tulare Street and Dunford Street. Shoulder backing along Santa Fe Way and Kimberlina Road also was performed.

The country’s Removing and Preventing Illegal Dumping, or RAPID, cleaned 116 dump sites in District 4 in May; 477 dump sites have been cleaned in District 4 this year and 421.8 tons of refuse have been collected countywide in 2019.

Call our office, 661-868-3680, or email [email protected] if you notice potholes that need to be filled or illegal dumping items needing to be removed. His staff is always glad to refer these requests for a work order to be created.
