Decorated trees from the community are on display as part of Christmas at the Depot, starting Dec. 7 and every Saturday in December until the first weekend of January. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. check out all the Christmas trees on display and the Depot Museum, 150 Central Valley Highway, and vote for your favorite. Tree lighting kickoff

The holiday season begins in Shafter with the Community Tree Lighting and Sing on Monday Dec. 9, at the Downtown Square beginning at 6 p.m. The community is invited to be a part of this annual tradition.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony also includes entertainment, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus.

Grimmway Academy Choir will be on hand to sing for the attendees, along with church groups. Hot chocolate will be handed out by the Girl Scouts, and Distinguished Young Woman of Shafter Kristen McGuire and her court will be leading a singalong at the event.

Children will be treated to a visit from Old St. Nick and have an opportunity to get a picture taken with the jolly fellow.

The City of Shafter will be handing out goody bags to the kids, and there also will be stuffed animals given out courtesy of Minter Field Air Museum.

The city is encouraging everyone to attend and be a part of this communitywide celebration.
