11 arrests in probation crackdown

For those who were wondering about the heavy police presence on Saturday in Shafter, it was due to a probation compliance check on local probationers and parolees.

The operation was a result of a concerted effort between over 50 officers and deputies from seven different law enforcement agencies in Kern County. In addition to the Shafter Police Department, there were officers from the Ridgecrest Police Department, Kern County Sheriff's Department, Delano Police Department, California Department of Corrections, Kern County Probation Department and Taft Police Department.

Over 50 locations were targeted by officers and deputies doing compliance checks. As a result of the operation, 11 suspects were arrested, and 51.25 grams of methamphetamine and over 64 grams of marijuana, including "wax," were seized, along with two guns.

The charges on the subjects ranged from felon in possession of a handgun, possession of drugs for sales and child endangerment. The suspects were booked at the Kern County Sheriff's Central Receiving Facility.

"This is a great example of Kern County law enforcement coming together to ensure safer neighborhoods in our Kern County communities," Shafter Police Chief Kevin Zimmermann said afterward.

He expects similar operations to be conducted in the future.
