Wellness Fair postponed

Precaution for coronavirus, though no cases in county

The Shafter Community Wellness Event that was set for Wednesday, March 11, will be postponed due to the growing public health concerns of COVID-19.

“We felt it best to postpone the event to another time,” event organizers Lynnda Martin and Angie Nelson said in an email Tuesday night. “We are very sorry about this news but want to keep in mind what would be best for community wellbeing. We want to be able to share resources with the community while being mindful of everyone’s health.”

There were no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Kern County as of Tuesday night, according to the county Public Health Department. But many such events have been cancelled or postponed nationwide.

“We appreciate you all so much for being ready to give to the community the resources that they need and helping to spread the word within our community about the event,” the organizers said. “We appreciate the support you have given this event and are truly sorry for any inconvenience.”

A new date for the event will be set as soon as possible, they said.
