Due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic that Shafter and the rest of the country are facing, Toni Frantz of the Distinguished Young Women of Shafter program has announced a postponing of the program that had been scheduled for Friday, March 20.
“After weighing the options and going back and forth, we are postponing the DYW program,” she said Monday.
Frantz said they are following state and local guidelines and will be rescheduling the program in May or June. “We are working on finalizing a future date.”
For over 45 years in Shafter, the program has provided local high school girls with college scholarships and valuable life skills. “We are so thankful for the support of our community and their commitment to our youth and hope to put on a great program soon.”
The program was to change its location this year. It was to take place at Shafter’s Ford Theater.
