Mom to appear in child's death

Breanna Jimenez, 31, of Shafter, is scheduled to appear on June 24 for a preliminary hearing on vehicular manslaughter charges related to an accident in which one of her children was killed.

The incident occurred on Feb. 24 on Lerdo Highway, where Jimenez lost control of her vehicle and rolled over, ending up in an orchard. Her 6-year old son Jaden died as a result of the accident.

Jimenez’s bail remains at $50,000. She also is charged with three counts of willful cruelty to a child.

Observed at the scene by police, and later corroborated later by toxicology reports, Jimenez did not appear to be under the influence.

This will not be Jimenez’ first court appearance on a driving matter. In September 2018, she was was cited for driving without a license, failure to stop at a stop sign and two counts of failure to restrain children in their car seats or restraints. That case resulted in over $900 in fines for Jimenez.
