A Distinguished group

Shelby Ramos was crowned as the winner of the 2021 Distinguished Young Woman of Shafter in a program that was done primarily online. All of the performing was done by video, and the only personal contact with judges was during the interviews. Judging was done

remotely by viewing the contestants' performances. At right, Ramos receives her medal from Distinguished Young Woman of Shafter 2020 Kristen McGuire. Even though the program was done mostly online, "It was still an honor and a blessing to be named the first alternate," Pompa said. "I was nervous during the time we were performing, so I had some jitters, especially having to perform in front of a camera. Everything worked out in the end. It was a great experience, even if we didn't get the full experience."--Photos courtesy Shafter Distinguished Young Woman
