VBS kids learn of creation

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the community of Shafter still held its annual Community Vacation Bible School, letting the kids delve into the mystery of creation. This event was the result of a collaborative effort, involving local churches and a host of volunteers.

Put on by Valley Bible Church, De La Saron Church, Shafter Christian Fellowship and New Hope Church, the Vacation Bible School was a chance for local children to gather for the first time for a lot of fun and learning.

The theme this year was Mystery Island, with participants going on a quest for answers to questions such as "Who is God?", "What is God like?", and "Does God Love Me?". With the help of the VBS, they learned the answers to a lot of their questions and more. They managed to track down God with a variety of quests and activities that taught them Bible lessons and scriptures.

They also had a lot of fun with lessons that gave them a better understanding of the Creator and the salvation He offers through Jesus Christ.

Each day, the kids went on a different adventure, learning about some of God's attributes, such as Great, Almighty, Emmanuel, and trustworthy. They also learned how those traits can be applied to their own lives every day.

The week was also full of great music and fun moves that accompanied the songs, letting the kids learn while having fun.

There also were Ride The Tide games that let the kids compete in a series of games that delivered lessons as well. To keep their energy up, the children also were treated to some yummy snacks during breaks.

They also had the opportunity to express their artistic sides with a variety of science experiments and crafts.

Valley Bible's Jennifer Russell said the event was a true community effort, with support from so many churches and individuals that made it a success. Cris Starrh and Effie VanderHelm were directors this year, with Sandi Brown in charge of crafts and Rochelle VanderHelm directing the music. "We ended up with 37 kids for this year's event and had 35 volunteers from the different churches and some individuals. It was a real success."

"This shows what a great community we have and how much they care about our children. It really says a lot about the faith we have as a community."
