Marion Harder

1931 – 2020

Marion E. Harder was born in Parlier on Nov. 11, 1931, to parents John and Helena Thiessen. She attended Reedley High School and graduated in 1950. Shortly after, she married her life-long love, Ray Harder, on Aug. 25, 1950. The couple were married at Reedley First Mennonite Church nearly 70 years ago.

Marion was always so active in church; she was a kind woman, quick to help. Her career included teaching children and helping prepare meals at schools. Mom loved sewing and baking especially during the holidays (and if there wasn't a holiday she'd bake anyway). She enjoyed nature and traveling, and always looked forward to trips along the coast or up to the mountains. When home, Marion loved spending lots of time in her flower garden.

Marion is survived by her husband, Ray Harder; daughters Dorthy Richardson and Debra Moore; grandchildren, Adam and Herlinda Watt, Raymond and Elaina Dorito, Rashelle Moore and Randy, and Jennifer and Ben Thompson; 11 great grandchildren; and 10 great, great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter on Wednesday and Thursday, July 8 and 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. each evening. A graveside service will take place at Shafter Memorial Park on Friday, July 10, beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Pat Coyle will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marion’s name to North Kern Christian School, 710 Peters St., Wasco, or Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, 400 Kern St. Offer condolences to the family at PetersFuneralHomes.com.
