Shafter looking for planning commission members

The City Council is looking to appoint three people to each serve a four-year term on the Shafter Planning Commission beginning in January. The commission is made up of five members appointed by the City Council. Current members of the commission are Bob Wiebe, Ron Nunlist, Kirk Mouser, Jon Johnston and Peter Frantz. Frantz, Johnston and Mouser have terms that expire in December, which makes it necessary to fill their seats.

The commission works closely with the council, the community, and city staff to achieve those goals. This mostly involves land use matters.

Commission meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. Members are compensated $100 a month. Completion of an ethics training course within their first year is required. Individuals must also maintain residency within the city limits of Shafter. Those interested in being appointed must also be a resident of Shafter and registered to vote.

You must submit a letter of interest with your name, address and telephone number, a statement why you are interested, and a resume of work experience, education, and other qualifications to the Shafter City Council at 336 Pacific Ave., Shafter, CA 93263 by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.
