Shafter City Hall.

The City of Shafter's IT system was attacked by ransomware over the weekend, resulting in the entire system being frozen and locked.

City Manager Gabriel Gonzales said that their IT department discovered the breach over the weekend. At this time, they do not believe that any personal information has been obtained.

Gonzales said that the city's staff is working closely with the FBI to determine the extent of the attack.

"We are working with the FBI on this matter and trying to determine the source and the extent of this unauthorized access," he said.

City Hall doors will be closed until further notice. The City's Finance Department will continue to serve the community through their alley window and City Services will remain open for manual transactions. As of Oct. 19, the city is working on getting a limited amount of services up and running.
