Trunk or treat event provides fun during pandemic

Families experienced a different kind of Halloween event as the Wasco Library parking lot was turned into a social distanced Trunk or Treat event.

Cars filed through one at a time as kids accepted craft bags and candy from waiting volunteers.

Hosted by the city, the library and Assemblyman Rudy Salas, groups gathered at decorated trucks to delight the children.

Library staff members Tina Garcia, Shellie Ornelaz, Laura Medina and Ethen Picman were busy handing out craft bags and candy. The library included a hanging pumpkin craft item in each goodie bag.

In another section of the parking lot, City of Wasco Executive Assistant Debra Andreotti, Administrative Assistant Monica Flores and Assistant to the City Manager Mariana Sobolewski also passed out candy from the back of a decorated truck featuring the Wasco Animal Shelter.

Lillian Rayne Rios, 9, was dressed up like a gypsy as she collected her candy and other goodies. She was one of the only children to dress up in her Halloween costume for the event.

Celsey Taylor, from Assemblyman Rudy Salas's office, was also available to assist the library.

The Wasco library is now open Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Reservations need to be made before visiting by calling 661-868-0701.
