1936 -- 2021

Bonnie Lorie Smothers, 85, passed away on Feb. 8, 2021 in Bakersfield. The wife of Billy Smothers, they shared 68 incredible years of marriage together.

Born in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Dorothy and Claude Kaufman and little sister to brothers Walt, Doc and Clarence. She attended Wasco High School where she would eventually work as the supervisor of the Wasco High School cafeteria for 25 years. A job she loved as much as all the many kids she served over the years. Bonnie, who was known by almost everyone as Granny, had many hobbies. She loved oil painting, making projects in woodshop, and stained-glass art. She will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, her sense of humor, and her love for old westerns played at very high volumes.

Bonnie is survived by her spouse Billy Smothers, her son Brad Smothers, her granddaughter Valerie and husband Brent Paul, her granddaughter Michelle Conley, her granddaughter Sharee and husband Elvis Barber, her great grandchildren Andrew, Randy, Marissa, Chandler, Gaige, Daniel, Abby, Aiden, and great great grandson Hunter. Her brother Clarence and his wife Janelle Kaufman and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Gene Smothers and daughter Terri Hassett, her parents Dorothy and Claude Kaufman and brothers Doc and Walt Kaufman.
