Wasco High School will return to classes in-person this fall on Aug. 12 for only in-person instruction, Assistant Superintendent Kevin Tallon said.
Currently students attend in-person instruction part time Tuesdays through Fridays for three periods a day. Students attend in-person in the mornings and the others attend distance learning in the afternoon.
"The number of students that continued with distance learning is 1,160 while 598 are in attendance," Tallon reported.
Tallon said the first day of class in the fall will begin Aug.12 and the district is planning for only in-person attendance for the next school year.
"We are running a large summer school session that is 'mainly' in-person with an offering in every subject," Tallon said. "We expect approximately 900 students to attend. All teachers were offered the opportunity and over 70% plan to teach at least one class."
Wasco High Director of Athletics and Activities Joshua Huddleston said baseball, softball, soccer (girls and boys), basketball (girls and boys), golf (girls and boys), swim (girls and boys), track (girls and boys), tennis (girls and boys) and wrestling (girls and boys) are currently competing.
"We expect baseball, softball, swim and both soccer teams to qualify for playoffs," Huddleston said. "Individuals may qualify for the postseason in golf, tennis and track."
Huddleston added that the current spectator guidelines are two spectators per student athlete (four spectators per athlete when the competition is in the stadium). All spectators are expected to follow covid-19 protocols remaining masked and maintaining social distancing.
"Most sports will conclude before graduation, though baseball, softball and swim playoffs will continue into June," he added.
