Event will help clean up Kern County

Keep Kern Beautiful is hosting an event on April 23 for all Kern County residents to help clean up the area.

The event is to recognize the Great American Clean up on April 30. The national event is the country’s largest community improvement program and takes place annually in over 15,000 communities nationwide.

Lynnda Martin, from American Refuse in Wasco, said there are a couple of big events coming up in the near future that can help the county keep its environment looking beautiful.

“I will be helping with some supplies for the events, as well as helping facilitate promotion in areas with Keep Kern Beautiful to hopefully get some more volunteers,” Martin said.

Martin said she will have plenty of trash bags for residents to use and she is trying to get free paint for graffiti clean ups as well.

Trash bags and safety vests will be provided. They also are asking that you dress appropriately for weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and all participants must fill out a liability waiver.

Keep Kern Beautiful is a committee whose mission is to protect and beautify our natural environment by means of community engagement, education, and empowerment.

It was created for the purpose of educating the community about littering behavior, control and prevention, waste handling, and beautification projects. They also promote a healthy, safe and enhanced community environment for all residents to enjoy.
