ONGOING

NEW: Carting refuse workshop – City of Shafter & American Refuse presents seminar on learning about the New 3 Cart Refuse Service. Two workshops att Mannel Park, 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, april 14 and Veterans Park, 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, July 16. Questions, call American Refuse, 661-758-5316.

NEW: Cool down – Cooling Center in Shafter at the Walker Senior Center, 505 Sunset Ave. Opens 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Questions, call Kern County Aging & Adult Services, 800-510-2020.

Flag salute – The City of Wasco invites your son or daughter to lead the flag salute at the start of City Council Meetings. You pick the date, and we sign you up. Leaders must be from age 5 to 10 and know the Pledge of Allegiance. If you and your child are interested in participating, contact Wasco City Hall at 661-758-7215.

Meals and homework – Wasco Branch Library is in partnership with NO Kid Hungry and the Kern County Superintendent of Schools is offering free meals and space to do homework. Mondays and Tuesdays. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free Bookkeeping Training Program at MAOF, Mexican American Opportunity Foundation. 2130 Chester Ave., Suite 200, Bakersfield. Call 661-336-6821. Related occupations include accounts payable/accounts receivable clerks and payroll clerks. Entry requirements: At least 18 years of age, completed reading and math assessment, high school diploma or GED.

All residential households can order four free at-home COVID-19 tests. Visit covidtests.gov.

MONDAY

Richland School Board – Meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at Golden Oak Cafeteria, 195 S. Wall St.

Shafter City Council – Meetings are held at City Hall on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

TUESDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center: Tuesdays, come and join in our beginning computer skills class 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wasco Woman’s Club – Meetings are at the Clubhouse, 1601 7th St., on the second Tuesday of the month. $15fee for the lunch meetings.

Senior lunch program – Every first and third Tuesday of the month: Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St. Sack lunches for seniors will be given out at 11 a.m. Sponsored by Golden Gleaners.

WEDNESDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center – Wednesdays, come and join in Storytime 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Shafter Rotary – Meeting at 7 a.m. at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

Shafter Kiwanis – Meeting Wednesdays at 12 p.m. at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

THURSDAY

Board game Thursdays – Shafter Library & Learning Center: Thursdays, come and join in board games 3 to 5 p.m.

Wasco High School Board – Meetings the second Thursday of the month at 1900 7th St. in Room 202, or alternatively in Library Room 1101. The agenda is on the WHS website.

Wasco Recreation and Park Board – Meetings are on the third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hall at Barker Park.

Food distribution – Shafter Recreation and the Gleaners have food distribution every first and third Thursday of each month at the W.C. Walker Senior Center, 505 Sunset Ave.

FRIDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center: Fridays. come and join in some Lego time (the library provide the legos) 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Food giveaway — The Impact Program is a weekly food giveaway provided to anyone in need, Fridays beginning at 7 a.m. first come, first serve. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

SATURDAY

Depot Museum – The Shafter Depot Museum is open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is at 150 Central Valley Highway.
