Serving the community since 1922

A restaurant that stands out above the rest

Cafe 101 is a beloved restaurant in Wasco. Before that, it was Perkos, and owner Fidel Alfaro worked there for 23 years. He started as a dishwasher, then cook and later transitioned to manager with a small ownership stake. In 2012, he became the sole owner.

The family restaurant serves American and Mexican cuisine. Their specialty is breakfast.

"We make pancakes, waffles, steak and eggs, French toast and all types of omelettes," said Alfaro.

Their produce and ingredients are all sourced locally, and their food is fresh and prepared daily.

"Our meals have a homemade appeal," he says.

The staff of nine is friendly and welcoming. "Some of our workers have been with us for over 20 years," said Alfaro.

They have loyal clients that are regulars.

"We have customers that come every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner because our food is great, and we treat them with lots of care and attention."

Alfaro said their customer service is excellent.

"I feel great pride knowing they leave satisfied and wanting to return."

The restaurant is right off Highway 46 for local and out-of-town customers.

A banquet room can be rented for large groups for special occasions such as birthday celebrations and conferences. "We provide a warm and comfortable space for people to gather and meet," he says.

Cafe 101 stays active in the community by sponsoring youth sports teams and churches.

"We do this to thank and stay connected with Wasco for all the affection they have shown us."

Alfaro has lived in Wasco for 24 years, with his wife of 16 years and two children. He enjoys the small-time town feel and the relationships he has developed with customers over his time in business.

"I think we have been successful because we value our customers. People know us, and people appreciate our good service and the quality of our food," Alfaro said .

They faced challenges during the pandemic but adapted by offering outside dining. Even so, they maintained their clientele, and they were able to weather through it.

Alfaro feels lucky and grateful for the love his customers have shown Cafe 101.

"As long as our customers continue coming back, we will continue to serve the community as we have for so many years," said Alfaro.

Alfaro invites one to taste their food.

"We have some of the best breakfast, lunch and dinner in the area."
