Elks' car show is back, will honor Blaine Willard

Wasco Elks Lodge #2419 will present its annual car show and cornhole tournament on Saturday, Oct. 1. Since 2017, the free event will be in memory of long-time Elks Lodge member Blaine Willard.

"It will be a fun day for all ages to enjoy," said Leading Knight Jerry Bozarth, who has been a member since 1978.

There will be food, arts and crafts vendors, raffle prizes, a silent auction, a beer garden, a bloody Mary bar and music by DJ Boom Dog to add energy to the festivities.

Almost 500 people attend the event from near and far. Money raised will go toward the Elks' many initiatives.

The club's purpose is to support local organizations and causes. They provide funding for the VFW, scouts and youth scholarships. They also sponsor the local wrestling teams and Toys for Tigers, and they give Christmas gifts to seniors at various convalescent homes and host a dinner for first responders.

"We hope that with this event, we bring people together in celebration while promoting the mission of our club to be of service," Bozarth said .

The event will commemorate a past member that did so much for the club and community.

"He participated in all of our projects, working hard with his tireless efforts bringing passion and love to our club."

Bozarth said they anticipate having over 60 classic vehicles, including golf carts and motorcycles.

"We always get many nice cars, and many people admire them. There will be trophies for the winners," he said.

The Orange Heart Foundation will spearhead the cornhole competition.

"It will be great seeing everybody enjoying themselves and having a good time."

Bozarth said he is grateful for their many sponsors, including Richland Chevrolet, NAPA Aujto Parts, O'Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone. Their biggest supporter is Cindy Banducci, Willard's daughter.

They still are looking for sponsors to ensure this year's event is another big success.

"We invite everyone to join us for this special gathering, building community and honoring the life of one of our dear members," said Bozarth.

The event will take place at 16694 Wasco Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. For more information on car show registration or sponsorship opportunities, call 661-747-8831.
