ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW: The Shafter Library & Learning Center – Fall semester starts Aug. 29; registration is open. Classes scheduled Monday-Friday from 4:05-7 p.m. Classes include:

Grades 1st-8th: Art Through All Mediums, Art Around the World, Future Scientists, Cooking, Baking, Spanish, Keyboarding/Computer Programming, Crafts, Literacy Lab, Lego Robotics, iMath Games/Tutoring.

Pre-K (3-5 years): English, Spanish

Pre-K (1-3 yrs): Bilingual for Toddlers.

Family Classe (attend together as a family): Family Bilingual Night, Family Art night.

Bakersfield College courses and certificate programs: Register at their website directly.

Flag salute – The City of Wasco invites young people to lead the flag salute at the start of City Council meetings. You pick the date, and the city signs you up. Leaders must be age 5-10 and know the Pledge of Allegiance. If interested in participating, call City Hall at 661-758-7215.

Bookkeeping training – Free bookkeeping training program at MAOF, Mexican American Opportunity Foundation. 2130 Chester Ave., Suite 200, Bakersfield. Call 661-336-6821. Related occupations include accounts payable/accounts receivable clerks and payroll clerks. Entry requirements: At least 18 years old, completed reading and math assessment, high school diploma or GED.

Covid tests – All residential households can order four free at-home covid-19 tests. Visit covidtests.gov

MONDAY

Richland School Board – Meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at Golden Oak Cafeteria, 195 S. Wall St.

Shafter City Council – Meetings are held at City Hall on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m.

TUESDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center – Join in beginning computer skills class, 2-4 p.m.

Wasco Woman’s Club – Meetings are at the Clubhouse, 1601 7th St., on the second Tuesday of the month. There is a $15 fee for the lunch meetings.

Senior lunch program – Every first and third Tuesday of the month at Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St. Sack lunches for seniors will be given out at 11 a.m. Sponsored by Golden Gleaners.

WEDNESDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center – Join in Storytime 9-10 a.m.

Shafter Rotary – Meeting at 7 a.m. at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

Shafter Kiwanis – Meeting at 12 p.m. at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

THURSDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center – Join in board games 3-5 p.m. Please register beforehand.

Wasco High School Board – Meetings the second Thursday of the month at 1900 7th St. in Room 202, or alternatively in Library Room 1101. The agenda is on the WHS website.

Wasco Recreation and Park Board – Meetings are on the third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hall at Barker Park.

Food distribution – Shafter Recreation and the Gleaners have food distribution every first and third Thursday of each month at the W.C. Walker Senior Center, 505 Sunset Ave.

FRIDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center – Join in some Lego time (the library provides all Legos). 3-5 p.m.

Food giveaway — The Impact Program is a weekly food giveaway provided to anyone in need, beginning at 7 a.m. First come, first serve. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

SATURDAY

Depot Museum – The Shafter Depot Museum is open Saturdays from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The museum is at 150 Central Valley Highway.
