Shafter police make weapons, drug arrests to start new year

The Shafter Police Department made two arrests in the last week involving drugs and weapons.

On New Year's Eve at 11:03 p.m, a Police Department officer made a traffic stop in the 300

block of Jackson Avenue for a vehicle code violation. A search of the vehicle was conducted and

two loaded firearms were found inside the vehicle, along with narcotics for sale. The occupants

of the vehicle, Jesus Quintero, 24, of Wasco, Jose Sainz Camacho, 29, of Bakersfield, Priscilla

Martinez, 33, of Lost Hills, and Yahir Gomez, 19, of Wasco, were detained at the scene.

Quintero and Martinez were later arrested for being felons in possession of loaded firearms and

ammunition while in possession of a controlled substance, felons in possession of ammunition,

transportation of narcotics for sales, participation in a criminal street gang and possession of a

nonregistered firearm. Gomez and Sainz Camacho were later arrested for participation in a

criminal street gang, transportation of narcotics for sale, possession of a nonregistered firearm,

and possession of a controlled substance while personally armed with a firearm.

On Jan. 2 at 10:10 p.m., a Shafter Police Department officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle

for an expired registration. A search of the vehicle by officers found

a sawed-off shotgun, shotgun ammunition, illegal high-capacity magazine, 9 mm ammunition,

narcotics, approximately 4 pounds of processed cannabis. what was believed to be stolen

property and evidence of identity theft being located.

Indica Alonzo, 35. of Bakersfield, was arrested on charges including felon in possession

of an illegal concealed firearm (sawed-off shotgun) and ammunition, narcotics transportation and

sales and possession of stolen property. Moses Coronado, 26, of Shafter, was arrested on charges including beging felon in possession of an illegal concealed firearm (sawed-off shotgun)

and ammunition, narcotics transportation and sales and gang member in possession of a

concealed firearm. Vernardo Luevano, 34, of Bakersfield, was arrested on charges

including narcotics transportation for sales, possession of a high-capacity magazine and

possession of an illegal concealed firearm.
