Reserves lose home opener, 5-3

First major league game in Wasco

In the city's first major league baseball game in history, the Bakersfield Train Robbers beat the Wasco Reserves in their opening home game Saturday at the Ballpark, 5-3.

Despite leading off with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, the Reserves didn't hold on for long, giving up three runs in the top of the fourth. They tied it up in the bottom of the seventh, but two runs on a single and a double in next inning took hem their their third loss.

Catch Charlie Padilla had two hits in four trips to the plate, leading the Reserves. Starting pitcher Dmitry Shtykher lasted 6 innings, and Mitchell Langer took the loss.

Wasco hope to break their losing streak Sunday night at 7 p.m. at the Ballpark in their second game against Bakersfield. They have a 7:45 p.m. start against the Train Robbers Monday night.
