Student Spotlight

Valeria Gomez Diaz

Valeria Gomez Diaz is currently a senior at Shafter High. Every year she has pushed herself in academics by enrolling in honors and AP courses. She has also been involved in extracurricular activities, such as participating on the cross country, golf and swim teams, being a leader in the FFA program, a member of the kinesiology sports medicine program, and for the first time, helping with link crew.

This year, she chose to show a different animal than past years at the Kern County Fair; a black angus steer. Her hard work and dedication to the process paid off because she won her first FFA award, Champion Lightweight Steer. What she is most looking forward to her senior year is becoming top three in league for golf

Next year, Valeria plans to attend the University of California at Davis and study animal science to become a future veterinarian.
