This little one's first Christmas with Santa.
The Grimmway Academy choir entertained the crowd with some carols.

DYW's Kristen McGuire, Aaliyah Chavolla, Kaelah Perez and Isis Brownlow led the attendees in a big sing-along.
The Christmas holidays were kicked off on Monday night with the 3rd Annual Tree Lighting and Sing held at the downtown square in Shafter.
To begin the season of cheer, a large tree, full of bright ornaments and decorations, was lit up for the first time in front of a crowd downtown. Most came wrapped up in warm clothing, prepared to celebrate in the cool weather.
The event had plenty of music, as the crowd was entertained by the Grimmway School choir and sang with the Distinguished Young Woman of Shafter Kristen McGuire and her court. Other girls representing the DYW were Aaliyah Chavolla, Clarissa Vander Poel, Kaelah Perez, Isis Brownlow and Stephanie Ledezma.
Girl Scouts Troop 2447 provided hot chocolate and performed "Little Saint Nick" and "12 Days of Christmas."
Of course, the holiday wouldn't be complete without a visit from that old guy from way up north. Santa Claus met with all of the children and listened to their Christmas wishes. He gave out goodie bags that included small toys, candy and other items. The kids also received stuffed animals provided by Minter Field Air Museum and books courtesy of the Shafter Learning Center.
The sound was provided by J Angel Jimenez, who gives his time and expertise for many of the city's major events.
This is the second major event of the season, following the Christmas parade put on by the Shafter Lions Club on Nov. 22. The next event coming up is the Santa Fly-In taking place at Minter Field on Dec. 14.
