Terrific Kids honored by Kiwanis

The Shafter Kiwanis Club held their Terrific Kids Luncheon recently to celebrate and honor those students who have exhibited the character traits outlined in the program's mission statement. Each month, there is a different trait that students are recognized for.

Those traits that the Kiwanis Club and the school's teachers are looking for include Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable.

Golden Oak Principal Anamarie Mendez and Vice Principal Raymond Carr presented their Terrific Kid of the Month, Alexander Medina Cruz.

Dean of Student Success Sandra Murd presented Adrian Lomeli as the Terrific Kid for Richland Junior High. Adrian was accompanied by his parents Abel Juarez and Rosie Juarez.

Sequoia Principal Frank Flores presented the Terrific Kid award to Christian Delgado, accompanied by parents Erika Muraulla and Jesus Delgado.

Principal Flores also presented an award to Anthony Godinez. Godinez was accompanied by his parents and family, Anthony Godinez, Jaime Godinez and Veronica Villagran.

The Kiwanis Terrific Kids program helps students by recognizing and rewarding them for behavior and work that embodies the character traits that will help make them productive members of society and responsible community members.

At the same time, it teaches students to establish and reach goals and promotes perseverance. The program also provides teachers with a method to empower and motivate their students in a positive way.
