City update on COVID-19

The City of Shafter closed its offices to the public last week and they stay closed with no end date on the policy.

There have been a few updates on their policies as the virus situation has evolved. The city announced this week that they have closed all restrooms at the parks in the city for the health and safety of the residents. They also are recommending not using the playground equipment at the parks in town.

If you do go to the parks, they are recommending you bring your own equipment to use such as sports equipment or exercise equipment.

They also announced that Meals-On-Wheels is offering to deliver to seniors in Shafter who are unable to get their own meals. They can call 661-746-7838 for more information on their meals delivery service.

City staff members still are operating their offices and can field phone calls for any questions or concerns. Dial A Ride service still is suspended, and the Shafter Police Department still is responding to calls in the community, no matter the severity of the calls. They will be responding and investigating to every call from the residents.

Lynnda Martin of American Refuse is asking Shafter residents to follow the guidelines promoted in an ad elsewhere in this week’s paper as to the placement of waste containers. They are urging residents not to overfill their containers and also to make sure the cans are at least three feet apart and six feet from vehicles. They are also asking residents to not leave any trash or debris beside the trash containers. This necessitates the drivers to get out of their trucks and handling the trash, which is an unnecessary risk to the drivers’ health.
