Fall/winter water restriction schedule is now active

Residents must now adhere to the fall/winter water restriction schedule, city officials said.

The schedule is to encourage water conservation efforts.

For those residents that live north of Lerdo Highway, watering on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays is allowed. Residents living south of Lerdo Highway may water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Residents cannot spray off patios, driveways or sidewalks. Violators can be fined up to $500.

City officials also reminded residents that there will be a bulky waste event Saturday, Oct. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Shafter Aquatic Center.

Residents can drive up and dump their unwanted household items. Items accepted include mattresses, appliances, furniture, televisions, e-waste, and water heaters. Not accepted are hazardous waste, construction waste, household trash, and green waste.

The city also announced the addition of a new phone number that will directly connect to the Public Works Department.

The numbers for the different departments at the City Hall building and city offices are: Public Works- 661-746-5004, Human Resources- 661-746-5003, City Services- 661-746-5002, Finance- 661-746-5001, and City Manager- 661-746-5000.

The Shafter Learning Center recently participated in team building exercises. Learning Center staff members met on a Saturday for some team building and staff development. They discussed best practices in tutoring, class ideas, opportunities for further learning, and customer service. They also discussed our organizational structure, history, and the exciting next phase of our work that will include a locally operated library and the GAF expansion.
