Santa returns to Wasco with parade, tree lighting

Wasco is bringing holiday traditions back to the community.

Santa Claus will be arriving in Wasco on Saturday, Dec.11. He will be riding on a city fire truck with City Council members, who will help light the tree in front of the historic Wasco Union High School auditorium. The parade will begin at Broadway and travel down 7th Street, ending at Poplar Street. The tree will be lit at 7:15 p.m.

The Wasco Rose Festival and Orange Heart Foundation are working together to bring this event to the community.

“When we saw there would not be a Wasco Rose Festival, we took that on and put it together in three weeks. This was another opportunity to fill a need and we are excited to bring the Wasco Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting back to town,” said committee member Juan Gallardo. “It has been a goal to have the Tree Lighting in front of our beautiful auditorium.

“We are especially grateful to Wasco Union High School District for allowing us to do so this year,” added Orange Heart Foundation President Traci Mills-Clendenen.

DJ Boom Dogg will provide music for the event and Thamar Garza will lead the crowd in singing Christmas carols at the tree lighting. Parade entry fee will be a toy donation to Wasco Toys for Tigers.
