Pastor's Corner: Jesus is my friend

On the way out to church the other day the old song “What a friend we have in Jesus” played on the radio. I began to sing along with the man on the radio. When the song was over I thought, Jesus you are my friend. In John 15:15 Jesus said I have called you friends… Some friends can let you down, but Jesus is a friend that will never let you down. You are always on his mind and he cares for you like no other person.

Jesus is my friend, he took my sins away. 1st John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He died upon the cross in my place, the just for the unjust. He was the Divine Substitute.

He brought freedom to my soul. He freed me from the guilt of my past. Yes, Jesus is my friend. He has changed and blessed my life since we became friends in 1980. He has never left or forsaken me. He is my friend.

Jesus is my friend; he has always been faithful and true. He has led me through trials and troubles. The song says “can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness. Take it to the Lord in prayer.” He has always kept his promises and he has never lied to me. Jesus is my friend.

Jesus is my friend, he has met all my needs. Looking back over the years when things were tough for my family, my friend Jesus led us through the difficulties. When your cupboards seem to be empty, remember Philippians 4:19, but my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Jesus is my friend. Daily he loads us with benefits.

Everytime I read Solomon 5:16, where it says “and this is my friend” I think of Jesus. He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Jesus is my friend.
