ONGOING

Wasco Branch Library, in partnership with NO Kid Hungry and the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, is offering free meals and space to do homework.

Bookkeeping – Free training program at MAOF, Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, 2130 Chester Ave., Suite 200, Bakersfield. 661-336-6821. For more information. Related occupations include accounts payable/accounts receivable clerks and payroll clerks. Entry requirements: At least 18 years of age, must complete a reading and math assessment, high school diploma or GED.

All residential households are able to order four free at-home covid-19 tests. These tests ship for free. Visit covidtests.gov.

MONDAY

NEW: 5/9 Wasco High Tigers softball/baseball vs. Taft High at Wasco High 4-6 p.m.

Richland School Board of Education meetings are held the second Monday of each month, 6 p.m. at Golden Oak Cafeteria, 195 S. Wall St.

Shafter City Council meetings are held at Shafter City Hall on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

TUESDAY

NEW: Wasco High Tigers softball/baseball vs. Shafter High Generals at Wasco High, 4

p.m.

Wasco Woman’s Club – Meetings are at the Clubhouse at 1601 7th Street on the second Tuesday of each month. $15 fee for the lunch meetings.

Senior Lunch Program – Every first and third Tuesday of the month: Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St. Senior sack program lunches provided at 11 a.m. Sponsored by Golden Gleaners.

WEDNESDAY

Shafter Rotary – Meeting Wednesdays at 7 a.m. at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

Shafter Kiwanis – Meeting Wednesdays at 12 p.m. at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

THURSDAY

NEW: Wasco High Tigers softball/baseball at Arvin at 4 p.m.

Wasco High School board meetings –: 1900 7th St. in Room 202. The meetings are on the second Thursday of the month and are sometimes held in the Library Room 1101. The agenda is on WHS online.

Wasco Recreation & Park board meetings – Each third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hall at Barker Park.

Food distribution – Shafter Recreation and the Gleaners every first and third Thursday of the month at the W.C. Senior Center, 505 Sunset Ave.

FRIDAY

NEW: Wasco High Tigers Swim Friday and Saturday in Section Championship at Hanford Sierra Pac. High School. Time to be announced.

NEW: Wasco High Tigers Swim Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, at State Championship at Clovis West High School. Time to be announced.

Food giveaway — The Impact Program is a weekly food giveaway provided to anyone in need beginning at 7 a.m. First come, first serve. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St.

SATURDAY

The Shafter Depot Museum is open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is located at 150 Central Valley Highway.
