Serving the community since 1922

Those in need will be fed for free

The Freewill Baptist Church in Wasco will be providing a free hot meal to anyone in need on Friday evening Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. This is a Matthew 25:35 Ministry, which serves those in need.

The scripture expresses the compassion and servitude of Jesus Christ.

“For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in.”

According to Mike Miller, of the Wasco Freewill Baptist Church, the idea came about in a unique way.

“We have a regular food giveaway on the last Saturday of the month, giving bags of food away for all who need them. Well, we had a homeless lady that came by, and we heated her up a croissant. She was so moved and said, “You know what, this is first time in so long that I have had a hot meal.” Miller and the church were so moved that they decided to hold a free hot meal this month.

Miller said that it is sad that programs such as theirs are necessary, but he is thankful for the opportunity to help his community.

Miller said that if the event has some success, there is a possibility that this could become a regular monthly event. “We will see how it goes and what kind of turnout we have,” said Miller.

The church is located at 938 7th St. in Wasco.
