Serving the community since 1922

Rebecca D. Aguilar

Aug. 9, 1929 – Aug. 31, 2022

Rebecca D. Aguilar, a homemaker and life-long resident of Shafter, passed away on Aug. 31, 2022, at the age of 93 in her residence.

On Sept. 19, 1948, she married Pablo E. Aguilar in Wasco, who preceded her in death on May 5, 1991. They were married for 43 years.

Rebecca was born in Artesia, New Mexico, on Aug. 9, 1929, to Manuel and Juanita (Wilson) Domínguez. Soon after, the entire family decided to move to Wasco permanently.

Rebecca was a devoted follower of Christ, wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt, and sister. She was always devoted to her family and her church, Primera Iglesia Bautista of Shafter, where she was an active and dedicated member who served in various capacities for over half a century.

She had a passion for gardening, crocheting and embroidering. She enjoyed creating beautiful handi-work with skill and love. She readily shared her creations with all her family and as a source to earn funds for church. She took an interest of sharing her talent with her grandchildren and anyone who took an interest in learning the craft. She received several recognitions for volunteering her services locally and made crocheted preemie caps for newborns for some of the local hospitals.

Rebecca also had a love for traveling. She visited numerous states and countries. Her long-time dream of visiting the Holy Land where Jesus walked and preached came to fruition in 2014 when she traveled to Israel.

Family members and friends delighted in spending time with her for she had an "exuberant enjoyment for life" in everything she did. She was to the end, a truly respectful, strong, humble, supportive, and loving person. Her legacy will live on in those who knew and loved her, for she was a committed and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior.

Rebecca (Becky) is survived by her children; Emilia González (A. David Marshall), Pauline Aguilar, Delores Moreno (Paul Moreno), Ruth Rodríguez (Guillermo Rodríguez), Steve Aguilar, Joe Aguilar (Mirah Aguilar), Victor Aguilar (Irene Aguilar), Ron Aguilar, Tony Aguilar (Mercy Aguilar), Lucy Aguilar, Emma Aguilar, and George Aguilar. She is blessed with 19 grandchildren and 24 great grand-children. She is survived by two siblings; Jeannie Valenzuela and Inez Oaxaca.

Visitation is scheduled at Basham and Lara Funeral Care at 343 State Ave., Shafter, on Sunday, Sept. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. The officiant will be Pastor Pablo Chávez. Burial to follow at Shafter Memorial Park, 18662 Santa Fe Way.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rebecca's life. The family would like to thank all the physicians, nursing staff and supportive individuals at both Mercy Hospital and Bristol Hospice Care in Bakersfield for their professionalism, care and kindness. We are grateful to them for making the last chapter of our mother's life as comfortable as possible.
