Charles Loyd Guyton

Nov. 26, 1932 -- Nov. 3, 2022

Charles Loyd Guyton was the son of William Archie and Beatrice Flanagan Guyton. Due to his mother’s untimely death when he was 28 days old, he was raised by his maternal grandparents, James Alexander and Nettie Flanagan, in Queen City, Texas, on a small farm.

Guyton graduated from Queen City High School in 1952. His paternal grandparents were Henry Grady Guyton and Freda A. Harden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and half-sister Janet G. Dial.

In 1955, Charles came to Wasco, to see his dad and stepmother, Cora Guyton. He was drafted into the Army in 1956, and retired as a master sergeant in 1984. He had tours of duty in Japan, Germany and Korea (twice). He was also stationed at Fort Carson, Colo., and Fort Ord, Calif.

In 1959, he married Laurie Franklin of Wasco. After his retirement, they moved back to Wasco. They became members of the First United Methodist Church. Charles met high school tennis coaches Frank Thiessen and Joe Hively, and volunteered to help them, which included a year as coach of the girls team. He also gave private tennis lessons to children and adults until he was 77 years old.

On March 20, 2014, Charles was especially proud and honored to be inducted into the Wasco Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his contribution to their tennis teams.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie Guyton; their sons, Miles (Helen), Scott (Elaine) and Peter (Tara); grandchildren Shelley, Marissa, Ryan, Brennan, Deanna (Memis), Marilyn (Memis), Johnathen and Jeramiah.
