Mexican pastries are prepared daily.

There is a new bakery in town that will surely delight your taste buds. Vane's Cakes and Bakery opened last November with rave reviews.

Husband and wife team Wences Flores and Vanely Uribe are the owners. It is a family affair, with uncles and nephews lending a hand to attend to the busy clientele.

Their specialty is preparing one-of-a-kind cakes for all occasions, including weddings, baptisms, birthdays and quinceaneras in various flavors such as chocolate, carrot and banana.

"We are most known for our unique cakes with original designs. There is always a great demand for our cakes," Flores said. "We enjoy the smiles on our client's faces when they see the special cakes we have created for them."

Their pastries are prepared fresh daily. They make traditional Mexican croissants, pan dulce, flan, fruit tarts and cupcakes. Ingredients are sourced from among the highest quality.

"We use only top ingredients, and lots of love goes into our baking. We aim to provide a wide variety of pastries," Flores said.

Before opening their store, they worked from home for five years under the name Cakes by Vane. After many compliments and cultivating the art of baking, they decided to realize their dream of opening a storefront in Wasco.

"Our home business took off rapidly, encouraging us to open our baking business in Wasco. We always stay focused on what we like the most, and this was it."

They chose Wasco because they appreciated the small community and wanted to serve the residents the best they had to offer.

"I know there are other bakeries in Wasco, but I believe we stand out from the rest because our customers tell us so," Flores said. "They keep coming back, showing us we are doing something right."

Uribe's fondness of baking was inspired after taking private classes.

Flores started his baking career at the age of 13 in Mexico, where he learned the ins and outs.

"I always enjoyed the work. It has been my passion for as long as I can remember," Flores said.

They both arrived from Mexico in 2008, spurred by their desire to achieve the American dream. Their excitement for baking led them to Wasco in hopes of owning their own business.

Cakes are made to order and are each a unique creation.

Flores said they have been received well by the community and intend to provide the tastiest desserts for the residents to savor.

He pointed to the rising costs with the current economic landscape, which is why their prices are so affordable.

"We want to make our products accessible to everyone."

He has a special message for the community of Wasco.

"We are here to serve them with delicious cakes and pastries 365 days a year," Flores said.

Vane's Cakes and Bakery, 947 7th St., is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To order specialty cakes or pastries, call 661-240-5476 or 661-865-9450.
