Medical personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. According to Assistant Police Chief Diana Barnett, the victim, Javier Munoz, of Shafter, is expected to survive, and was in stable condition in a local hospital Wednesday. Munoz goes by the gang name "Night Owl," according to Barnett.

This Shafter Press reporter was nearby when the shots could be heard. Officers had guns drawn soon thereafter at the intersection of West Lerdo Highway and South Wall Street.

They then entered the alleyway that leads to the Starbucks, yelling at the suspect, "Get down on the ground, get down on the ground!" They then took the suspect – still unnamed by the police Thursday night – into custody.

"We are still investigating the incident so we haven't released the name of the suspect," said Barnett.
