Serving the community since 1922

Edicks show love to animals and people

Wasco Veterinary Clinic is a symbol of compassion, dedication and love for animals and people alike. A family and locally owned business by Dr. Thomas Edick and his nephew, Dr. Brian Edick, they bring warmth and passion to the community they serve.

Since 1981, they have built a legacy of exceptional care and community engagement that has earned the clinic a reputation for bringing the highest quality of service, complete with a friendly and dynamic team of ten, including Jenifer Abernathy, who has worked there for 17 years.

Dr. Thomas and Dr. Brian attended UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, as did Dr. Thomas's father, Dr. Melvin Edick, who inspired them to follow in his footsteps.

Dr. Thomas was motivated to be a veterinarian and launch his business by watching his father practice and run Delano Veterinary Clinic with his mother by his side.

"They tirelessly worked to service the needs of the surrounding communities. They provided both large and small animal medicine and owned and operated a dairy in McFarland," he said.

The clinic provides small animal veterinary care, vaccinations, pet parasite treatment, dentistry, imaging services, laboratory service, pet microchipping, nutritional counseling, pet wellness exams, pet spay and neuter, pet surgery and orthopedic work.

Wasco Veterinary Clinic provides a much-needed service not only to Wasco but also to Shafter, Lost Hills, Buttonwillow, McFarland, and many of the outlying areas.

"These small rural towns are underserved and in great need of veterinary services, and our practice has always been greatly appreciated by the clients," Dr. Thomas said.

Dr. Thomas and Dr. Brian are very loved in the surrounding communities of Kern County, who feel they are trustworthy, fair and have a practical approach to veterinary medicine.

The clinic stands out from the rest. "We are a family-owned and operated veterinary clinic and not corporate, as many of the veterinary clinics in Kern County have become. We have always tried to give our clients personalized service," Dr. Thomas said.

Dr. Brian added, "Many customers have expressed their appreciation about the simplicity of the clinic. It's still very "mom and pop" and we will strive for a relational feel as best as we can."

Both Dr. Thomas and Dr. Brian live in the local communities. "We belong to service organizations and try to donate both time and money to make Wasco and Shafter better places to live, as do our wives," Dr. Thomas said.

Wasco Veterinary Clinic has woven itself into the fabric of the Wasco community. It will leave a mark of healing, kindness and commitment to the welfare of our cherished pets and will continue to do so for many years to come.

The clinic is located at 717 7th St. For more information, call 661-758-2977.
