Serving the community since 1922

Ayalaya's Barbershop makes the cut

There is a new barbershop in town, located at the site that once housed Elro's Barbershop, on Central Avenue. Ayala'a Barbershop has been open almost a month, and is excited about this new opportunity to cut its way into the community's hearts.

Owner Alfredo Ayala, along with barber Brent Martinez, opened the shop to give the residents of Shafter a new option when it comes to hair styles. They are ready to give you any type of cut you want, being well-versed in all of the new styles that are popular today, along with the old standbys that have stood the test of time.

"The drop-fade is really popular right now," said Martinez, who was working on a customer's hair when we visited. "We can do any type of cut, from a straight cut, to a fade, or a clean shaved head, we can do it all."

Martinez started cutting hair professionally in 2016, after finishing school, starting at Deluxe Barbershop in downtown Shafter. "I have been cutting hair in Wasco for the past three years, and am excited to come back to Shafter." Ayala was actually an apprentice under Martinez, learning from him and building his experience and knowledge. "Then, Alfredo was looking for a barber to take a chance on him, and I decided that it was be a great fit," said Martinez, who made the move to Shafter with Ayala.

"We have been open for almost a month, and it has been really good. We are looking forward to building our business and clientele." They already have a good following from their previous location, and are determined to build that up to include plenty of new customers that will become regulars.

Appointments are available, but they say that walk-ins are always welcome as well. Their cuts are only $25, which is a great deal in today's competitive market. So if you are in need of a cut, try the new guys in town who are ready to satisfy your need, no matter the cut. They are going to work to become a "cut above the rest."
