Lady Generals basketball undefeated, heading to playoffs

The Shafter High Lady Generals basketball team completed an undefeated SSL season on Thursday night, crushing their rival Wasco High by a score of 78-15, making the Lady Generals back-to-back SSL Champions.

Led by Coach Shawn Pennell, Shafter used a smothering defense to force several turnovers, resulting in numerous points in the transition. Shafter had the lead 50-7 at the end of the first half, The second half was played with a running clock, preventing the score from being even more lopsided.

The Lady Generals were led by Alexia Ramirez, who had 14 points, and Anne Marie Piuser, who added 13 points for the game. Every player on the roster scored at least two points, with Coach Pennell letting all of his players see significant playing time on the night.

The Lady Generals ended the regular season with a perfect 12-0 record in the SSL, with an average winning margin in their SSL games of a whopping 52 points. Their closest league game was a 56-28 win against Kennedy High School, a margin of 28 points.

The bad news for the rest of the SSL is that there is no end in sight for the Lady Generals. The freshmen team, the junior varsity team and the varsity team all completed undefeated seasons in the SSL, with the school building a dynasty that could last for years.

Up next for the Lady Generals is the first round of the playoffs, with the opponent and Shafter's seed to be determined.
