Woman's Club takes PRIDE in Cans D'Arte

The Shafter Woman's Club is helping breathe life back in to the Colours program. They will be sponsoring a food drive, ``Cans D'Arte Exhibit 2024,'' at the Depot Museum the last two weekends in February and through the month of March.

This project focuses on community assistance to those who are in need of food to support themselves and their families. All proceeds will go to the Shafter High School PRIDE Pantry.

Anyone can enter the Cans D'Arte. Entries will be able to enter and set up their displays Saturdays in February. The Depot Museum will be open 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on each Saturday to bring in displays and food donations. Entries will be on display Saturday, Feb. 24, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 25, 1-3 p.m., at the museum. All displays and donation boxes will remain at the museum until the end of the March.

There are two categories open for public entry this year. Entrants are welcome to enter in either category or both categories, if they desire.

Category #1: Construct architecture structures or designs using cans or boxes of food. The structures or designs should spell out or identify the name of a common phrase or title or saying. There is no entry fee for this category.

Category #2: Construct art pieces out of cans or boxes. This category will allow the entrant to shape and mold the materials into objects unrelated to the art materials. There is a $5 entry fee for this category. The money will be used to purchase food goods to help stock the PRIDE Pantry. Category #2 entries can be picked up at the Depot Museum on Saturday, March 30, 11 A.M.-3 P.M. Category #1 entries will be donated to the pantry.

The food collection will continue through the end of March. We urge everyone to consider donating food. For more information, call or text 661-529-1340.
