Kiwanis honor some special students

The Shafter Kiwanis Club held their monthly Terrific Kids luncheon, honoring local students who display the character trait that is featured for that month. This month, the focus is onFriendliness.

Those being recognized included Maple School's Noah Lopez, Viana Fuentes, Amber Gonzalez and Sophia McCuan. They were presented awards by their principal, Christy Nelson.

For Sequoia Elementary, Principal Janeane Morrison gave awards to students Auctavia Espinoza and Ashton Espericueta. Redwood Principal Yvonne Hernandez presented awards to students Yulissa Gavino and Ellen Ahmed.

Golden Oak Assistant Principal Jose Montelongo gave awards to Kamila Gonzalez and Julian Lopez and Richland Junior High Dean of Students Mylum Nicholson presented Erik Ramirez and Leyla Rayo with Terrific Kids awards.

The Terrific Kids program has been honoring students for decades, giving them positive reinforcement for their exhibition of positive character traits at their respective schools.

Those traits that Kiwanis and the school's teachers are looking for include thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive and capable.
