Shafter Library and Learning Center ready for summer

The Shafter Learning Center and Library will be undergoing some renovations during June, so attention will move to the annual Reading Challenge that will be held from Monday, June 3, to Thursday, July 18.

There will be work being done inside the building on a couple of new classrooms, giving the programs more room for the growing numbers that the Library and Learning Center have been attracting.

The Reading Challenge will reward those readers who complete 20 books and a book reading log documenting the achievement. Each child who turns in a completed log in the allotted time will receive a medal, a certificate and an invitation to the End of Summer Reading event. They also will receive tickets that will be entered in a raffle at the End of the Summer event. Prizes will include zoo tickets, gift cards and movie tickets.

There also will be a competition between all of the local schools. One Shafter school will receive a trophy and banner that reads, "Home of the Summer Reading Champions."

All of those interested can pick up a reading log at the Library and Learning Center. Students can complete multiple logs, allowing them to get entered into the raffle additional times.
